Thailand - Bangkok Sky Bar

Hi everyone, as some of you know I've just come back from the most amazing 4 week holiday to Thailand. I got the chance to visit some incredible places and see some amazing things, so I'm really looking forward to sharing my experience with you all.

First stop was Bangkok, and on one of our evenings we went to visit The Dome Sky Bar at Lebua Hotel, one of the highest rooftop bars in the world.

The Sky Bar is on the 63rd floor of the hotel and is popular for it's breathtaking Bangkok skyline. Apart from the amazing views, one of the reasons I chose this rooftop bar was because the Hangover II was also partly filmed here. I've heard some very positive experiences about the Lebua's Sky Bar, but also a few bad ones too. Bad reviews stated the drinks menu were too expensive and the staff rushed people to leave. I kept these in mind when I went, but none the less I was very excited.

We planned our evening to visit the Sky Bar on a Friday night so we were expecting it to be quite busy. Once you reach the top, you'll find the bar located right next to Sirocco's restaurant overlooking the most incredible view of Bangkok. Many people visit just for the view, therefore a designated area (the bar) is arranged for guests to gather and take pictures. This is the only place pictures are allowed to be taken unless you have your own table at the restaurant. As soon as I walked out onto the rooftop I immediately loved the atmosphere. It was windy up there, but for those of you who have travelled to Thailand before, and know how super hot it can get, it was nice to feel a breeze! Staff were all very welcoming and extremely friendly; they even offered us a table at the restaurant to have our drinks.

The price of drinks are expensive. Cocktails are about £12 (600baht) each and a nice glass of red wine, which I had, was £16 (800baht). If you think about it, the prices aren't that expensive in comparison to London, but because it's Thailand it's a shock to our system. However, if you can see it from my perspective, it is free to visit this rooftop, so realistically you're really paying for the view.

Considering we visited the Sky Bar on a Friday night, we never once felt rushed to leave. We stayed for over 2 hours admiring the views from our table and enjoyed listening to the jazz band entertainment. At the bar, there are plenty of people gathered around the side having drinks and taking pictures. Staff are more than willing to take pictures of you and also carry around a small torch to add lighting whilst taking your photo. They even take multiple shots so you have a whole selection to choose from. It's like they knew what I was thinking, AMAZING.

After visiting the Sky Bar, I now completely understand why they only allow people to take pictures in one designated area. For guests eating at the restaurant, it must be quite annoying and is inconsiderate to have many people around you flashing their cameras. So I do utterly agree with their rules. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and would definitely visit again in the future.
